Parent & Infant Montessori Series

For babies from birth through 6 months

The first six months are a period of remarkable change.  Babies are developing through movement, their senses, relationships, language, and everyday experiences.

In this small-group series, parents learn to observe what their baby is communicating and discover practical ways to prepare the environment to support development—without rushing milestones.

Each 90-minute class includes time in the prepared Nido environment, parent education, guided observation, a developmentally appropriate experience, and a Montessori material or resource to continue using at home.

Families will explore:

• Adaptation to life after birth
• Attachment and responsive caregiving
• Observation without comparison
• Visual, tactile, and auditory development
• Freedom of movement
• Reaching and early grasping
• Language and communication from birth
• Preparing sleeping, feeding, movement, and physical-care areas
• Choosing developmentally appropriate infant materials
• Following your baby’s individual rhythm

Preparing for Baby

Prepare more than the nursery.

Prepare for the child who is coming.

For expectant parents and partners

Much of preparing for a new baby naturally centers around what to buy. Montessori invites families to prepare something even more important: the environment, the relationship, and themselves.

This eight-week prenatal series helps expectant parents understand the newborn’s needs and thoughtfully prepare for life together after birth. Rather than focusing only on the newborn checklist, families begin looking at the world from the baby’s developmental perspective.

What we’ll explore

Preparing the Home
Create peaceful, practical areas for sleeping, feeding, physical care, and movement without filling your home with unnecessary baby equipment.

Understanding the Newborn
Explore the baby’s transition from the womb into the family environment and what supports security, attachment, and adaptation.

Movement from Birth
Learn why freedom of movement matters and how the environment can support developing coordination from the very beginning.

Language & Connection
Discover how conversation, touch, songs, caregiving, and your presence become part of your baby’s earliest language environment.

Caring for Your Baby
Approach bathing, dressing, holding, and everyday physical care as opportunities for respect, participation, and connection.

Feeding & Weaning
Explore feeding as both nourishment and relationship, along with how feeding experiences change as your baby develops.

The Beginning of Independence
Discover how Montessori supports growing independence from the beginning—even while a newborn depends completely on loving adults.

Preparing for Birth & Family Life
Reflect on the transition into parenthood and prepare to welcome your baby as a new member of the family community.

Introduction to Montessori for Babies

You don't need a Montessori nursery—or a shelf full of special materials—to begin.

Curious about Montessori? Begin here.

For parents and babies from birth through 6 months

Wondering what Montessori actually looks like with a baby?

This relaxed one-time class offers an opportunity to experience the prepared Nido environment, learn how Montessori approaches development during the first six months, and begin looking at your baby through a new lens.

Rather than focusing on milestones to achieve or toys to keep babies entertained, we'll explore how observation, movement, connection, and a thoughtfully prepared environment can support development from the very beginning.

During the class you'll:

  • Learn how to observe your baby and recognize their interests and cues
  • Explore the Montessori approach to movement and sensory development
  • Experience a simple, prepared Nido environment
  • Discover why less can often offer a baby more
  • See examples of visual, tactile, and auditory experiences for the first six months
  • Learn how everyday caregiving supports language and connection
  • Identify one or two simple changes you can try at home
  • Have time to ask questions about Montessori and your baby

You'll leave with:

A Montessori Beginnings Starter Packet with observation tools, home-environment ideas, and a simple resource to begin using with your baby.
